An Update...

I have not updated in a while, but the dogs are the same as always - naughty and stinky, but mostly lovable and my best friends.

Since my last update, they've continued to knock down baby gates and get into the trash.  They have even done so when I've been home. That's a new level of mischievous for them. Usually they'd at least do it when I was home.  Imagine my surprise to come upstairs following a workout to find trash scattered around the hallway, kitchen, and living room. Those little rats!

They continue to wrestle around, play, and run like usual. They love going to work with their Grandpa. He owns a business and they act as his "ruthless" guard dogs. They will bark at most people, but settle down when familiar faces show up.  They, of course, eat more biscuits than I'd prefer. They don't get treats often at home... Now and then I'll go through a treat streak and will give them some, but it's not often. I suppose that's what grandparents are for; spoiling.

We took many walks this fall, which they loved.  That's the best time to walk them - when it's cool, but not cold.  They can't take the eat or the cold. But when the temperature is good, they will walk until they're ready to drop. They still try to go in different directions, chase squirrels, and befriend every dog and person that they see (unless the person seems shady; then they bark and growl - dogs know people). Mostly, though they're good on the leash.

Now that it's colder out, they're a little more cuddly. This means that they take over my bed and refuse to move. Naturally, everyone must be in bed together, as close as possible, because this keeps us warm. Forget that some of us prefer to be under the blankets, not just laying on top of them. I just LOVE going from hot to cold throughout the night. Hot when it's a massive huddle in the bed, and cold when someone moves, taking the blankets with him or her. BUT.... I still love the cuddle time.

Both dogs had their birthdays... Buddy's was the 17th of November and Belle's was the 18th. I wasn't even a good dog Mom and was out of town for their birthdays. They were having fun with their grandparents though, so I'm sure all was forgiven. They certainly did not get a special birthday breakfast but that's okay. They really don't need it, and generally that's people food which is not good for them. They didn't get presents, either. They have so many toys and rarely play with them, so I stopped buying them.  They receive a lot of love and are treated better than some children, so I think that's enough of a gift. And... They're dogs. It's not like they even know what a birthday is!

Nothing out of the ordinary has gone on with them lately.  It's almost time for our annual (well previously annual) Christmas card photo. Every year, except last year, we did a photo card. Last year I was just pressed for time and didn't get around to it. Hopefully this year I'll get it done in time.

Note to self: Do that soon.

All is Quiet.

The dogs have done nothing naughty of note lately. That concerns me. I wonder what is waiting on the horizon. Surely they will get into some kind of trouble soon.

I have noticed that it does not matter when (before or after eating) I take them for a walk, as soon as they're on the leash for a while they poop.  Seriously. Every. Stinkin'. Time.  What is it about the leash and pooping? GAH! I hate picking that up when we're out walking, but I'm not one of those rude dog owners who just leaves it. Soooo... Holding the leash (they have a coupler), I somehow manage to control two dogs, hold onto my phone, and pick up steaming piles of crap - and double bag it. I don't care if it's wasteful...I'm not going to carry poop in just one thin bag. I feel like that extra bag is an extra layer of protection. If I'm going to be holding a bag as we walk, the contents better be well contained.

Luckily they often poop on the first half of the walk, so that I can toss it in the trash when we pass it. There's a public trash can along our route. I don't just dump it in a random trash along the way. I've been tempted but no worries, I haven't done that.

I suppose I'll enjoy the good behavior of my lovely dog-children for now. I'm sure they'll be up to no good just as soon as they can.

Turkey Day

I finally threw away an old turkey last night. It had taken up residence in my freezer for far too long.

Buddy knew it was there and kept sniffing around the trash can last night. Today he (and probably Belle too) decided it would be a good idea to get into trouble. Someone knocked over the baby gate and the trash and retrieved the turkey, which was in a plastic bag.

They succeeded in getting it out of the bag, opening the netting around the bag, and the plastic that the turkey was wrapped in. Luckily it was still mostly frozen.

I was not happy to have a turkey carcass to clean up at lunch. I didn't have time to clean the floor since lunch isn't that long. Now I get to clean turkey scum off of the floor. Amazing. That is just what I had been dying to do... How did they know?! Ha!

It's too early in the week for this behavior....

Trouble

I have 30 minutes for lunch. I came home to find this. Apparently I had an angry dog or two in the house today.

It's a good thing I live close to work.

The Stolen Coffee Incident: Pictures

Ahhh my little children of the corn. If they weren't so cute and sweet....

Spoiled Dogs Like Starbucks

Today I had some shopping to do and since I knew it wouldn't take long, I decided it was a nice day to take the dogs for a ride. They loved it, of course! I was very quick and went into the mall to three stores (had to go to two to find one thing).  I then went to Target for a couple things, again in and out.  I stopped at Barnes and Noble to pick up a book....That turned into three books, BUT they are all books that I will need in the future. And yes, NEED. I didn't buy trashy romance novels for pleasure reading. They're the useful kind of books. Anyway, I picked up an iced coffee while I was there (lunch!).

I had one quick in and out stop on the way home. I went into the gas station to get a bottle of water. In the couple minutes I was in there... The dogs stole what was left of my Starbucks. There was some left in it, making what I consumed of it a grande instead of a venti, or close to it. I'm sure I'm fine without those extra calories anyway.  The tricky little dog who took the cup, out of the cup holder, did so without spilling anything, until of course they got the cup to the back seat.  Luckily I cover it with an old blanket.  I'm thinking someone must have drank a decent amount of it before taking it to the back.  I cannot imagine how in the world one of them got it out of the cup holder though.  Maybe took the edge in his or her mouth and lifted it back there... OH! He or she managed to take the lid off too.

If ever someone said Boxers are not smart dogs, they are wrong.  I have at least one little genius (or one super tricky dog) on my hands.  Apparently they liked the coffee because the cup was empty and they continued to lick it, as well as the ice that was spilled on the back seat.

Dogs are amazing.

Sharing is Caring....?

If I had the ability to share the stench that surrounds my dogs after they fart, I'd love to post it here. I think everyone should experience Boxer farts at some time or another. It really is an experince unlike any other. I often imagine a cloud surrounding their rear ends. It often resembles the cloud of stench that surrounds "Pig Pen" in the "Charlie Brown" cartoons.  It's a sudden burst of horror that fills the air.

Yes, if I could share this with you, I would.  Buddy and Belle have no problem sharing this with anyone, anywhere, anytime.  They know that sharing really is caring.

Treats and Drugs

My little (big) guy has a sore on his paw and has to take an antibiotic. Best way to get a dog to take meds? Conceal the pills in sausage. I'm not sure he even chews the sausage chunks. He definitely doesn't realize there's a little something extra in them.

Luckily he doesn't notice the pills. If he did, and didn't want to take them, that'd be one more struggle to add to the list.

His ears are always getting yucky and infected. It is super hard for me to clean them very well and he ends up having to get ointment. This is one of those times. He hates that little bit of ointment and tries to hide. If he'd just let me clean his ears, we wouldn't have to deal with the ointment. Silly dog!

Drinking Dogs?

Apparently someone (I suspect Belle) wanted an afternoon cocktail. Luckily they didn't open it.

Attack Dog

Apparently Belle does not like the noise that bags make when they pop. I received something in the mail today and it was packed with those Airplus packing things.

Some of the marks left on me when she jumped on me. This is one of the five areas covered on scratches. There were a few worse than that bit theyre on my belly and due to my excess skin (see my other blog) I don't deel comfortable posting them.

I guess she means business.

Shadows

I cannot do much of anything without these crazy "kids" following me.

No privacy in this house! I can't even relax in the tub without company... They just sit and wait for me to be done. Belle has quite the comfortable seat!

Buddy

He reminds me of Winnie the Pooh sometimes. Kinda lazy, kinda doofy, but always sweet and definitely cute.

The Beggin' Strips Incident.

I will admit that, many times, I'm partially at fault for the antics of these two crazy "kids."  I leave things where they can get to it. Sometimes I realize it and think "nooo, it'll be fine. They won't be able to get that." Sure enough I will come home and they will have gotten into whatever it is.

For Christmas I purchased them two bags of Beggin' Strips.  They opened them, with my assistance of course - they're NOT genius dogs, on Christmas.  Those bags had been sitting under the tree since then.  Until yesterday.

Apparently after a week and a half, they realized that the treats were there. Nothing that was there (the treats, four small fleece blankets, two dog toys, and new dog dishes) had been moved.  It was in the exact place it had been, with the treats securely in the back.

Yesterday I came home from work to find that....Someone had found the two bags, ripped them open, and over-indulged in some treats.  A treat feast was in order for the afternoon, apparently.  I can't say who the guilty party was, as I never can, but I have my suspicion, and it's pointing toward Belle.

In the past, before Buddy had a sister and when she was too small, it was him.  He was the one who ate an entire pan of brownies at my parents' house.  He ingested 16 ear plugs (the orange, squishy kind) that I counted, after they came out. For all I know I may have missed some.  He ate not one, but two, of those big containers of cookies.  He tipped over a crock pot, unplugging it and making it fall to the floor, full of those Lil' Smokies and sauce, also causing the lid to break. He's had his fair share of incidents of knocking the trash can over.

However, Buddy is best described as a lazy lump.  He cannot stand on his hind legs for very long. I'm not sure if he can't because he's too heavy or if he just doesn't want to.  He certainly couldn't stand up on his hind legs while using his front legs to get whatever object of desire is on the counter.  Belle has learned this trick. She is small and somewhat weaselly.  She loves to use her paws (most often to hit her brother in the face when he's getting attention).  I think she's also been guilty of getting into the trash too. Buddy is a year older and has calmed down a bit. He's content to snooze the day away.  He rarely plays with the toys, and sometimes I come home to find the entire basket of toys flipped over and scattered around the living room. This is not the work of Buddy.

Anyway, so being that the treats were under the tree, tucked in the back, I have my doubts that Buddy did it. If he had tried to get back there, he probably would have knocked the whole tree down. I'm pretty sure that Miss Belle Ann was the snatcher of the strips.

Of course Buddy loves his food, especially treats, so he couldn't resist taking part in the treat feast.  I came home and could smell the Beggin' Strips on both of them.  If there was a Beggin' Strip breathalyzer device, they both would have failed. Miserably.

They didn't get anymore treats the rest of the day, and so far none today.  I'm shocked that no one has had an upset tummy, that I'm aware of.  For once I have not awakened to a pile of dog vomit on my floor. Thank goodness!!

I can only imagine what these two will get into next....

The Birth of Two Farting Dogs

As I was watching television earlier, I couldn't help but giggle listening to my dogs as they slept.  They're so loud.  One was snoring. The other was dreaming and making whimpering noises; also had the leg shake going on. These noises remind me of the noise that "Popeye" made. They make these noises often, but sometimes they are much louder than others.  Unfortunately when they sleep they often pass gas which isn't nearly as cute or funny. Tonight was one of those nights.

That was that. I decided that I'd start blogging about all of their adventures.  I'm sure this won't be a blog I post on daily, but I'm sure it'll be often. They seem to always be getting into some kind of situation or another. They're quite entertaining, to say the least. And who doesn't love a good dog story or two?
